Our friends at MULU have recently launched a beautifully packaged raw chocolate Easter egg! Leo was thrilled when his arrived in the post today and couldn’t even think about waiting until next weekend to get it open.

The chunky solid, handmade egg weighs in at 84g and is sweetened with Agave Nectar. I can confirm it’s delicious!

Buy yours just in time for Easter, here.

Our 3 Year Old’s First Tennis Lesson November 19, 2012

I thought that I’d share a few pics from Leo’s first tennis lesson today. He’s 3.5yrs and tennis mad. He’s been asking for lessons for a while now and it’s taken me a few weeks to locate a club that offers lessons for 3 yr olds!!

He loved every minute of his 40 min lesson and shrieked with excitement throughout. At the end, the coach asked me how come he wanted to have lessons, and my answer was that I really don’t know. Leo doesn’t even know anyone (I don’t think) that’s really heavily into tennis, and we don’t watch it on TV or anything. He’s seen the ‘big boys’ play tennis at the park, so maybe it’s just from that.

He’s pretty good at it as he’s got great hand-eye coordination, and can even catch a tennis ball with two hands. I’m enjoying nurturing his interests and following his lead with what he wants to learn. I love seeing my boys so happy.

Natural Children’s Books from the Boutenko’s November 12, 2012

Filed under: Reviews — Jessica Fenton @ 10:44 pm

I absolutely love reading to my children. I love the look on their faces as they hear the worlds roll off the page. I love hearing Leo’s vocabulary improving as he tries out new words that he’s learned from a story in daily conversations. Max is pretty young and has a shorter attention span, whereas Leo could be read to for hours.

As an author, books mean a lot to me and I want to help my children enjoy them as much as I do. They say that if a child doesn’t want to read, it’s because they are reading the wrong thing. This is so true.

One thing that troubles me a bit is some of the story lines in young children’s books. I often find myself editing out certain words as I read, to preserve their youth and spare the nightmares.

So I’ve gone out of my way to find children’s books that have positive messages and are based around nature and plant based nutrition, as this is an important value in our family.

We’ve been enjoying the Boutenko’s Family’s books recently, mainly about natural nutrition, but aimed at little people…

Natural Toys For Little Boys! November 6, 2012

If you follow the Naturally Mummy blog you’ll know that we’re huge fans of toys made from natural and sustainable fibers. There seems to be something a bit more magical and special about these types of toys than the usual plastic, and we as a family much prefer natural over colorful plastic any day. The boys are really fortunate and they get sent lots of beautiful , natural toys to try out. They’re like my little product testers…. Here are some of the ones that get played with literally *every day.*

Brio Train Set

Super excited as the parcel arrives!

Love at first sight as he opens the box and is delighted at what’s inside

The Brio Train Set is brilliant because there is so much that you can do with the track. The possibilities are literally endless! At the weekend Tom and Leo spend hours putting it together in many different ways (whilst I have a much deserved lie in!!) It comes in a green storage box which is ideal for keeping it in when it’s not in use – which isn’t very often in our house!

Hape My First Gym

Max enjoying some nappy-free time under his First Gym

Max has loved this beautiful toy since birth. As a tiny baby he enjoyed lying there just looking at the shapes whilst I changed his nappy. As an older 9mth baby, he likes to grab it and try and eat it up at any opportunity. I really like the fact that even the paint they use is water-based.

Plan Toy Crane

This is a popular toy in our house, it’s always out of the toy box. They boys love it!! It comes with a cute wooden man wearing little felt clothes. It’s a fairly big, heavy toy which makes it really substantial. It has good movement and lots of functions making it suitable for a wide age range.

Sophie the Giraffe

Max chewing on Sophie

Most western  households have a Sophie! She’s such a popular little giraffe. Max certainly adores her and likes to give her lots of baby kisses. She’s made from Latex, which occurs naturally from the rubber tree. Natural rubber is sustainable (the Hevea trees oozes gallons of runny liquid from beneath the bark each morning before the sun comes up, that later sets into ‘latex’). Latex is also renewable and biodegradable.

Plan Toy Car Park

This is a complete hit and if you have a car obsessed kid, like we do, then you’re onto a winner with this. It’s beautifully made and painted and has functions such as a wind up lift and detachable car ramp. The boy’s garage stays out permanently in our home and is played with for long periods of time each day. It’s one of the most used and loved toys we have. Just about every kid (boys and girls) that come round to play, like to fully check out the car park.

Creating Healthy Children Through Attachment Parenting and Raw Foods By Karen Ranzi October 10, 2012

This is a must read for parents, parents-to-be or anyone considering having children in the future. Ranzi’s detailed account of how to raise and nourish a genuinely healthy child is based on research as well as her family’s own personal experiences of doing just this. What’s more is that the book is very well referenced and Ranzi cites many natural heath sources that would be incredibly beneficial for the reader to also investigate. Everything from Homebirth to Home schooling is also covered alongside the nitty gritty on how to actually feed your child a healthy raw food vegan diet regardless on what point they are starting from. I personally thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it comes with my recommendation.
