Now Leo is so much bigger it’s not always practical or comfortable to carry him in a baby carrier all of the time, so I sometimes take his denim Maclaren Quest along with us. Although it’s the best light-weight buggy I’ve ever tested, whenever he jumps out to have a little walk, if I have his nappy change bag slung over the handlebars the entire pushchairs tips backwards. I’ve seen this happen to so many parents, and when it happens to me I always feel like such a wolly!
I was over the moon when I came across this neat little invention called Hamster Bags. Hamster Bags are a set of two pannier bags that clip onto either side of the buggy acting as a baby change bag or to use in place of carrier bags. Their unique selling point is that when the child hops out of their buggy, the weight is distributed in such a way so that the buggy doesn’t tip backwards onto the handle bars. What’s more is that the buggy can still fold up when the bags are attached or you can quickly and easily detach them and carry your shopping into the house without having a million bags to contend with. They also fold inside themselves into two separate, compact (18cm) bags.
I was half thinking to myself that this might be too good to be true and that the buggy might still tip up. However, we tested them recently on a family day out at the farm and I can confirm that the buggy stayed upright! Tom and I were very impressed (as well as relieved) as it was such a wet day that the buggy would have been caked in mud otherwise.
